Cornucopia
Cornucopia is a conceptual speaker project I did at university. I looked towards retro and vintage designs of speakers and other audio output devices. I looked into nostalgia and computer peripherals for inspiration in the initial research. I saw that there had been a rise in nostalgia. Since the start of the global pandemic, we could see more and more people look back to the past and reminisce simpler times. So for my project, the speaker's design is greatly influenced by the gramophone. I combined the speaker and headphone stand in this design; I knew I wanted to give the speaker multiple functions in the early stages. It would come in three different colours, and I left the design to be simple yet elegant so it can blend right in with any environment. The main feature of the speaker is that by placing headphones, any headphones, on the wooden hook immediately, the speaker will detect the sound playing on your headphones. It will then play out loud on the speaker. This gives a hassle-free transition from headphones to speakers and vice versa. There is an option to keep the music playing on the headphones once you take it off the speaker. The continuous listening experience creates a smooth and enjoyable experience for the user. The wooden hook incases advanced technology that can detect the sound from any headphones placed on it. The speaker comes with a Bluetooth volume control. As the speaker doubles as a headphone stand, this could also reduce clutter on the desk and gives your headphones an official home!
